Incomplete Itinerary 24 Contemporary Churches in Lombardy
WIP 34
Exam and project for Alberto Sinigaglia (Teacher: Alberto Sinigaglia)
Year I | MA Photography
II semester - 2023
9 to 12 November 2023 (Opening)
Thanks to the teacher Alberto Sinigaglia we had the opportunity to get closer to architectural photography, taking some of the most beautiful contemporary churches in Milan. Each student*, randomly choosing some subjects, had the opportunity to approach the theme in a personal and independent way, investigating the history of the place and who designed it.
Starting from 1945, and throughout the great economic boom, the territory of the Ambrosian diocese and the surrounding areas were filled with new churches, in Milan alone more than 300 were built. These are surprising, beautiful, and iconic spaces, sometimes successful, sometimes less so, and almost always the expression of an attempt at experimentation. The group of twelve students in the first year of the ISIA U master’s degree in photography recently undertook a journey through the regions of Milan, Varese, and Pavia, documenting a total of 24 of these churches and therefore only a fragment, an incomplete itinerary. The students’ work was collected in an editorial project and concluded in a small exhibition at RUMORE of ISIA U held from 9 to 12 November 2023hrough the regions of Milan, Varese, and Pavia, documenting a total of 24 of these churches and therefore only a fragment, an incomplete itinerary. The students’ work was collected in an editorial project and concluded in a small exhibition @rumore.isiau held from 9 to 12 November 2023.
